Company History

Please take a look at the below accomplishments over the history of Canty

J M Canty PE

1969 – John M. Canty, the company founder, worked on a decompression chamber rated to one mile of ocean depth (2000 psi).  The decompression chamber still holds the world record for pressure rating to this day.  It is used to simulate conditions for divers for offshore and military purposes. crese.buffalo.edu

1971 – Canty developed and patented fiber optic lighting for decompression chambers and altitude chambers. The lighting is used on altitude chambers for space (full vacuum) and rated for pressure differentials up to 6000 psi.

1972 – Development of the rolling door closure for hyperbaric chambers, in conjunction with Richard Morin, for use on Project Themis which was later commercialized for diving systems.

1973 – Consulting work on altitude chambers and centrifuge chambers for Project Themis.

Further Accomplishments:

1)  Early work in 1969 on the dewars for Superconducting Magnets for the Bullet trains. This magnetically levitates trains allowing then to travel at the Bullet train speeds with no friction (A green project) The project engineer (during the Vietnam war-make love not war was the protest theme) had a sign on his desk "MAG LEV not War".  The Bullet Train

2)  Superconducting magnet work for Ferranti-Packard. This worked involved using superconducting magnets as airplane jet engines.

3)  Project Themis (US NAVY-University of Buffalo ) and DCIEM  (Canadian Armed Forces - Downsview, Ontario)

J M Canty Inc

1) Submarine Escape Training Hatch 1981.  Bid awarded from the US Navy over Electric Boat . Canty designed, fabricated and delivered the system on Christmas Eve for air lift by the United States Air force to The United States Naval Base in San Diego.

2) Fusion Reactor Support Structure for Oakridge Tennessee 1980

3) F16 and F24 (joint attack )Fighter jet project. In line camera monitoring of Bubble in fuel lines under high G to ensure cavitations free flow.  Link to General Dynamics website.

4) NASA Hydrogen Slush Light/Camera Combination to view liquid hydrogen transformation to a solid slush for space shuttle project

5) NASA replacement of all sight glasses in Shuttle launch pad fuel lines . The constant leakage failure prior to Fuseview™ sight glass was the number one source of delays.

GO GREEN PROJECTS/Energy Saving projects

1)  Fuseview replacement on Vacuum pans in sugar Mills and Evaporators in Dairy ,food ,pulp and Chemical Plants allow for a lower vacuum and lower boiling point. Canty Sanitary Fuseview

2)  Oil in Water monitoring for the oil industry to make sure their discharges are within drinking water limits and giving them the particle size knowledge to maintain and improve the process to achieve this goal. In-Flow - Oil in Water Monitor

3)  High temperature cameras to optimize processing of glass…reduce waste (energy dramatically ) by reducing the scrap from 10% to 2% on float glass (window glass) 7% overall energy savings for the plant.  Molten level control of glass to .001 accuracy assuring the minimum specification is met.  This created a reduction in overage of the thickness of glass reducing energy and material usage by 2-3 % for the entire plant. Canty High Temperature Cameras

4)  High temperature Cameras for flame monitoring to detect smoking or off burring flames in furnaces, kilns and incinerators. Canty High Temperature Cameras
